HMRT Superman was a British Rescue Tug that discovered the Whale Unit that the Partridge had been towing to Normandy. Her crew were able to tow the Whale Unit so that it could be used to ferry equipment to the landing force.
The ship doesn’t figure prominently in the story of the Partridge but it’s great to see a photo. This photo was taken off Harwich around 1940.
James, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the work you have done to write this book. Furthermore, I appreciate you posting the first chapter on, as you stated, a most-fitting day – Memorial Day. I understand now why our grandfathers were such good friends: they were both gunners mates. According to my now-retired navy husband, the Partridge would only have a few of them because of the size of the ship. I am sure our grandfathers must be smiling down on us and laughing at the irony that the two of us connected, just as they did in another time and place. I look forward to reading the rest of the book and to purchasing it in its entirety when finished. Best regards, Lisa
Hi Lisa! Thanks so much. And thank you to your husband as well. His insight was valuable in some of the later chapters. Look for the next chapter in a couple of weeks.
