Hi everyone and thank you for all the great comments on the recent photos. I’m working on getting them labeled, but feel free to comment if you identify anyone in the photos.
A few years back, Lisa Knott (who’s grandfather Dalton Kirkman father, Joe Feeney served aboard the Partridge) sent me this scanned account of the Partridge sinking. It’s a very personal account that’s worth the read. I never met Jim, but my father and mother remember meeting him at a reunion. He said of the ship sinking: “It was like your whole world disappeared under the water.”
I’ll be posting more, including chapters from my book soon.
Enjoy! (Click on the image to view)
My dad, Joe Miller, recounts the story of the Partridge to anyone who will listen. He’s 93 and lives with my husband and me in Frederick, MD. Thanks so much for sharing your photos and stories.
Hi Marcy — Thank you for your note. I’m happy to hear that Joe still talks about the Partridge. My grandparents lived in Hagerstown nearby. Let me know if Joe would like to share some stories and perhaps we can set up a phone call. Thanks again. James
Dad (Joe Miller) said he’d be glad to talk with you, Jim. Our number is 301-695-6183. Best time to call is between 11:00 am and 9:00 pm.
Hi James! This is Lisa Knott. I saw your above post and wanted to correct some info, particularly if your book is coming out soon. I am actually the granddaughter of Dalton Kirkman, who was stationed on the USS Partridge before and during the sinking. I am, however, the person who sent you the scanned account of the sinking. I am awaiting your book with much anticipation!!! Best regards, Lisa
Hi Lisa —
Thanks for the correction– the other Lisa wrote to me as well! I’m going to start to post chapters from my book on the site shortly. I have it almost complete and think this is the best way to get it out there. I hope you’re well and I hope that we can meet up some day. You and your husband were very helpful in my research for the book. Take care, James
Hi James! I hope to meet you as well some day. Please let me know if you ever get down to Hagerstown. We are still in Carlisle, PA and could easily drive down to meet you. Best Regards, Lisa
I have taped interview with Jim White made in 1996. I would like to give these to the right person but can not tell who is the author or how to contact them. Please email me! Ann Mix
Hello,
I’m looking for crew photos. Alan Olovitch was on board the Partridge. He earned a Purple Heart and I believe it was when the ship was torpedoed. He does not show up as wounded on the list.
I’m writing about him to honor his memory.
