Who Created This Website?

My name is James Krouse and I’m the grandson of Thurman Krouse who served aboard the Partridge.

I’m working on a project now to collect as much information on the ship and her crew. If you have anything to share — even a small story — please contact me and let me know. We’d like to include everything possible.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

James

  1. hello my grandfather dale berry krinn was a radio operator on the uss partridge when it was sunk.He was wounded but he survide the sinking.

  2. I am doing research for my father. He was stationed on the Partridge until his discharge. A close friend of his, Vernon Isom, requested the Partridge in hopes of serving with dad. It is my father’s greatest regret in life that Vernon lost his life on the Partridge.

  3. As one of the survivors of the June 11, 1944 sinking of the USS Partridge, my fellow crew members and I owe a debt of thanks. The officers and men of the HMCS Prescott faced the peril of the Nazi E boats to steer to our sinking ship. In the cold and dark, they stayed until all our men were aboard. All men, living and dead, were covered with oil. The living were washed and wounds cared for with compassion. Our deceased comrades were respectfully given a burial at sea. The Prescott transferred us to an evacuation ship on Omaha Beach. I have only the name of Robert Ainslie. Sir, you and your crew members will always be remembered.

    • I will pass this on to my grandfather! Thank you

  4. My name is prescott krouse and i think i may be family of thurman krouse, possibly. Can you do some digging or if you know of anyhting that might relate us please email me.

  5. A fun site! My grandfather, Edward Johnson, served with her in 1929 as Y1/c. I have a photo of the crew, and a ship’s newspaper, both from 1929. He stayed in, and served thru WWII, retiring in 1946 as a Lieutenant. He spent the first half of the war with the USS Indianapolis, and the second half on the staff of Adm. Hanson. Partridge’s CO in 1929 was Lt. James Martin.

  6. I’m the grandson of Joseph Gossman who perished when the Partridge went down. Does anyone here know if there is a legend identifying the crew members in the pictures on this site? We can only guess as most of our relatives who knew him are gone.

    Thanks!

  7. My Father, Willam F. G. Clements, survived the sinking and was in various English hospitals for 13+ months recovering from steam burns.

He spent his survivor leave with my Mother in New London CT then was shipped to the Pacific.

After the war he Skippered an LST on Kawajalein Atoll as one of the “Travelling 600″ Chiefs on contiuous TDA until he was given a slot at the Seabee School. His billets included: Port Hueneme, Adak, started Cubi Point NAS, Fort Mifflin NASD, Midway, finisished Cubi Point NAS, Fallon NAS then retired in Port Hueneme as a CWO3 in 1961.

He was then employed as a Police Officer then Director of Parks and Recreation for the City for many years until becoming a Professor at Ventura City College and fully retired in 1976 after a quadruple bypass.

He was a fairly happy but private man who liked to travel, camp, fish, and toss back a few and who didn’t speak much about the war especially the sinking.

He died in 2005 and is survived by his former wife Elizabeth Wallace Clements (Okanogan WA), widow Jaimie Clements (Pahrump NV), and children: Patrick Clements (Seattle WA), Kathleen Beynun (Boise ID), Timothy Clements (Seattle WA), me Michael (Redwood City CA) and many grandchildren and greatgrand children.

I would really appreciate any information about my Father if any of the survivors or others would be so kind to share.

    Respectfully Yours,

    Michael Clements
